Personality Bio
In June of 1991 Mike Gastineau tossed everything he owned into a Dodge Daytona and drove 3000 miles from Virginia to Washington to take a job (complete with a paycut!) at KJR radio. Initially hired as a producer, Gas badgered the PD until he was given a chance on air. He debuted as a regular talk show host in October of 1991. In September of 1993 he was moved to afternoons, a slot he has anchored ever since.
Gas splits his time on air, spending two hours daily with Dave Grosby for the wildly popular Groz with Gas show before soloing each day from 5 to 7pm.
Groz with Gas have proudly hosted the yearly Groz with Gas-a-thon which has raised several hundred thousand dollars for several area charities.
Gas is also associated with several local charities.
He and wife Renee enjoy travelling, live music, hiking, and spending time with their border collie/black lab R. J.
One of rock's all time great front men would be 62 today. RIP Freddie Mercury! I was fortunate enough to see the band on the 1979 tour when they opened up with a solid 1-2 punch. First, a sensational fast and very different version of "We Will Rock You" followed by the raucous "Let Me Entertain You." Here's that opening salvo from a show in Japan. Enjoy.
SPORTS STUFF
The biggest game of Tyrone Willingham's UW career is almost upon us. A win gives the Dawgs a shot at a 2 and 2 start and allows for optimism. A loss...with Oklahoma coming in next week followed by a bye week seems potentially catastrophic.\
Hard to remember the last time the Yankees came to town for what feels like a meaningless series. You'd have to go back to 1993.

TODAY'S RNR BIRTHDAY
Kim Thayil, 1/4 of the powerhouse that was Soundgarden, is 48 today. He's dabbled in several different music projects in the decade since the band ceased to be. Here's an incredible video from the 1992 Kitsap Country Fairgrounds show.
SPORTS STUFF
Just one day until the NFL season kickoff with a sensational rivalry game between the Redskins and Giants. Jim Zorn's head coaching debut can be heard LIVE right here!
Every day this guy isn't in the M's lineup this month is a day wasted.

TODAY'S RNR BIRTHDAY
Irish singer, songwriter, poet, author, and mystic Van Morrison turns 63 on Sunday. A sensational and underrated and very prolific musician, his work cannot easily be put into any one style. "Brown Eyed Girl", "Gloria", and "Moondance" are 3 good examples. All hits, one poppy, one gritty, one with much of a smooth sound. He collaborated on several occasions with the great John Lee Hooker. Here's an incredible video of the duo sitting on a dock and beltin out an outstanding version of "Baby Please Don't Go".

TODAY'S RNR BIRTHDAY
Danny Seraphine turns 60 today. The original engine behind Chicago's gritty sound, their stage was built around the talented drummer. They're better known for an unending stream of syrupy ballads but in their early days they had a uniquely edgy sound that was unlike anything else out there. Here's Danny in the middle of it all playing drums on "Free".

Aleksandar Živojinović came roaring into the world in Fernie, British Columbia 55 years ago today. At some point he decided to go with the stage name Alex Lifeson and it's by that name that fans know the guitarist for Rush. Here's Alex and the boys in 1981 performing "Closer to the Heart".

TODAY'S RNR BIRTHDAY
We're three days late but it's worth noting that Keith Moon should have turned 62 last Saturday. So much of the focus on his short life is on two things: drinking and destroying his drum kit. Pat O'Day tells a great story about being on a boat on Lake Washington with the Who and Herman's Hermits..the Who was opening for HH...and the band was having an argument in front of Pat. The gist of it was they couldn't afford to keep buying new drum kits for Moon. That being said...Moon's sensational sense of humor should not be overlooked. Check out this acceptance speech from the 2nd annual Rock Music Awards in 1976.

TODAY'S RNR BIRTHDAY
Rob Halford of Judas Priest turns 57 today. The absolute man when it comes to heavy metal signing...he's got a three and a half octave range. I'd be even more impressed with that if I knew what it meant. But I'll tell you what...I think he hits every single one of those octaves during this song. Here's JP with Halford out in front at the legendary Live Aid show in 1985.
SPORTS STUFF
Sad to see the dip in attendance at the Boeing Classic. For a city without many big sports events it's disturbing to see fans chose not to support the ones that are here. As for the weather...come on! When did we turn into giant weather weenies in this town?
5 days and counting to the biggest game in this guy's career.

TODAY'S RNR BIRTHDAY
We're two days late with this one but trust me...in the Black Crowes...punctuality is just another word in the dictionary. Drummer Steve Gorman is 43 today...and in addition to providing the back beat for one of America's most underrated bands he's also probably had to break up a fight or two between the combative Robinson brothers. Here's Steve with the boys in the band at the 1993 Daytona Music Festival.
